Nighttiming...

Have been experimenting in low light level conditions. No doubt any photographers I know will despair and claim I went about everything completely wrong...

Souvenirs Mini-Project Pt 2 - The Pixel Persistence/Failings

After finishing my test image I produced this photo montage from a bunch of photos taken in the good weather over the last week or so. Was planning to do a similar process as the previous image but time constraints and the lack of much concept above all else have led me to decide to restart and focus on something a little less technical and time consuming.

Souvenirs Mini-Project Pt 1 - The Pixel Process

All major project work for the year has now been accessed and returned to us. Term however doesn't end for another two weeks so we've been given a bin-work project to occupy ourselves until then. The project asks that we create a souvenir of the seaside.

After making a revisit to some old school work in the last project I thought it would be interesting to re-explore hand rendered pixel art. Instead of looking in grayscale though I've made the jump to colour. I'm working on 1:1 pixel mapping at the moment, so not trying out any of the shading types I did in the self-portrait.

My souvenirs are going to be a series of pixel hand-renderings of photos i've taken in and around the beach over the last week or so. I'm going to scour a few charity shops for a mix of frames as well. If anyone asks I went for pixels because of the juxtaposition made of looking at an image depicting such a selection outdoor activities in a form so often aquainted with digital things...and the pixels are somewhat representative of sand...right?

Cambridge Amateur Dramatics: Sense & Sensibility

Shameless plug for a production of Sense & Sensibility my sister is putting on at her University in about three weeks. She asked me to help out on poster/programme/tickets, and to make something in a similar style to the book project I worked on.

If you're in Cambride on 17th/18th June go check it out.

'10 Things' the set...

Finished the '10 Things You Should Know About Surviving A-Level Art' project. Took some shots of the finished set.

This is the case that the disk containing the pdfs comes with. Back side is thickened out with greyboard, also making it safer to hold the disc.

Upon inserting the disc, teachers are presented with a piece of software that allows them to navigate through the diagram and all 10 pdfs, and choose which one to print.

Cover Competition: The Lily

Front
Back
This was made for a cover competition during my time in 6th form. The competition was to design the cover for the school magazine (which is titled The Lily after the school motto 'Sicut Lilium'). The school colours are red and black and I ran with the theme of Lilies.

I won the competition though don't have a physical copy at my disposal to photograph and show.

10 Things You Should Know About Surviving A-Level Art

Finally some more up to date work to show. Working on a 10 segment guide to help 6th form art students understand what their Art & Design course asks of them, and how they can tailor the criteria to do things they're more interested in. I've developed a diagram of the course to help navigate around the 10 segments. The bottom image is a sample page for the first assessment objective. Click to enlarge. Watermarked so I don't accidentally submit the wrong draft.
